Obituary of Richard Webster

Reverend Richard Webster entered into the joy of eternal life with The Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the age of 77. He was born in Philippi, WV, to the late Elmer Webster and Nellie Mae Reed Webster. Reverend Webster founded Preparation Chapel Ministries and pastored Teens For Christ church in Philippi, WV for more than 35 years. The cherished husband of Reverend Shirley Webster, his wife of 55 years. Devoted father to six daughters, and "poppy" to twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of family, friends, congregants, associates, and brothers/sisters in the ministry worldwide. Children: Chrystal and husband, Randall Kelley, of Flemington, WV; Candance and husband, Clinton Drainer, of Flemington, WV; Constance and husband, Jeremy Wagner, of Philippi, WV, Bobbie Jo Webster, of Philippi, WV; Sabrina (Nickie) and husband, Sheldon Holbert, of Philippi, WV; and Savannah Webster, of Philippi, WV. Grandchildren: Leah Mcjilton, Seth Kelley, Adam Drainer, Jessica Riffle, Sherry Thompson, Aaron Thompson, DaShawn Webster, Patrick Webster, Sydney Holbert, Payton Holbert, Rylee Holbert, Josalyn Holbert Great-Grandchildren: Kelan Mcjilton, Avrielle Kelley, Bryce Kelley, Kambria Kelley, Claire Drainer, Victoria Drainer Beloved brother of Dixie Webster Laubach and the late Mildred Maxine Webster Wiseman. Reverend Webster was a US Army Military Police veteran. He went on to serve the city as a police officer for the city of Philippi. He also served many years in the coal industry for King Knob Coal. Aside from God, family, and work, Reverend Webster also loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a man of God, a preacher, a teacher, a friend, a brother, and a mentor, he used the pulpit to bring hope and joy to our community. Reverend Webster left a legacy of hope and promise to those who knew him. He demonstrated to us how to be faithful to the very end. Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever.
