It is with great sadness that the family of John Wayne McBee, 55 announces his passing at his home in Philippi, WV on June 28, 2014. He was the beloved son of Wayne and Patricia (Rogers) McBee born on August 25, 1958. He is survived by his parents Wayne and Patricia McBee, his sister Lisa Granados and her husband Walter, of Manassas Park, VA, his brother Shane McBee and his wife Deny, of Fishersville, VA. He also leaves behind his nephew Garret and his nieces Ciercy and Athenae, whom he treated as though they were his own children. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Alice “Jerry” Rogers of Philippi and his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Evelyn McBee, also of Philippi. John grew up in Virginia and graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1976. As a young man, he traveled the world, including trips to Italy, Greece, and Thailand before and after settling in Philippi, WV to begin a successful career in the landscape and Christmas tree industry. He enjoyed fine cigars and had a passion for history. However, John’s true love was his family. As a young man, he dedicated his life to taking care of his grandparents. His later life was spent caring for his parents. For one that had walked the Great Wall of China and climbed the Great Pyramids of Egypt, his favorite trip was spent in a pickup truck exploring the Alaskan wilderness with his father. There has never been a more devoted son, grandson, brother or uncle. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday, July 1 from 5-8 pm and on Wednesday July 2 from 8 am-2pm the service hour with Rev. Linda Payton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held later that evening at Elk City Methodist Church, immediately following a graveside service at Mary’s Chapel.
