Obituary of Mary Myers

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Myers, age 88, a resident of Tygart Center in Fairmont, WV, formerly of Main Street, Philippi passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Tygart Center in Fairmont. She was born August 4, 1926 in Spartonburg, SC a daughter of the late Samuel Miller Lawton and Roberta Alice (Stockton) Lawton. She was united in marriage on April 11, 1952 to Dr. Karl J. Myers, Jr., who preceded her in death on February 16, 2004. Surviving are: Three daughters: Keri Stockton Charlotte Owens Karen Moller Three sons: Roger Myers Alan Myers David Myers Eleven grandchildren: Blaise Stockton, Nicolas Stockton, Rose Stockton, Benjamin Myers, Joanna Myers, Robert Owens, Matthew Myers, Miranda Cleavenger, Adrian Cleavenger, Mitchell Cleavenger, and Emma Moller. Four great-grandchildren: Lauren Manuel, Maggie Hall, Jordan Stockton, and Morgan Stockton. Dr. Myers was preceded in death by 1 daughter: Jeanette Marie Myers; 1 granddaughter: Ashely Ownes Quinter; and 1 brother: Frank Lawton. Dr. Myers attended Mars Hill Junior College, Converse College and Women’s Medical College, receiving her medical degree in 1952. Dr. Myers was employed by the Myers Clinic in Philippi, and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. Dr. Myers was Baptist by faith. Mary Elizabeth and many relatives have been Baptist missionaries. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5 pm to 7 pm, the service hour with Pastor Danny McLean officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridge Crest Memorial Park, in Black Mountain, NC.
