Obituary of Betty Luff

Betty Lee Talbott Luff, formerly an 83 year resident of Barbour County, WV, passed away on August 23, 2014 at the age of 90 in her current home in Bridgeville, PA. Betty was born November 24, 1923 in Washington, DC. Betty was the daughter of the late E. Wayne Talbott and Virginia Compton Talbott. Mr. Talbott was a prominent attorney in West Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joan Talbott, and her son, Michael Todd Luff and wife Donna Jean Luff. Betty is survived by: Three children: Wayne Talbott Luff and wife Linda of Pataskala, OH Edward Randall Luff of Orlando, FL Kimberly Luff Wakim and husband Tom of Bridgeville, PA Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Joshua Stinson and Dr. Mizyl Stinson of North Port, FL and daughter Mikayla; Justin Michael Luff and wife Jessica of Philippi, WV, and daughters Ashley Luff and Kelsi, Alisha and Angelina Griffith; Jenny Elizabeth Luff of Philippi, WV and daughters Shelby Luff, Bella and Lauren Sykes and son Marshal Evix; Lee Ashton Luff and wife Megan, Columbus, OH, and daughter Abigail Rose; Patrick Luff and wife Mandie, Huntington, WV, and sons Bruce and Fletcher; Leslie Megan Luff of Philippi, WV; Benjamin Thomas Wakim of Bridgeville, PA Betty was a graduate of Philippi High School class of 1941 and was the Salutatorian of the Class. She studied at Alderson Broaddus College from 1941-1942 on a scholarship award. She received her A. B. from West Virginia University in 1947 with a major in zoology and a minor in English and completed 135 hours in graduate work. She received her B. S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University in 1980 with a major in accounting. Betty was a teacher at Philippi High School from 1944-1947 where she taught band, chorus and biology and Kasson High School, from 1951-1952 where she taught band and chorus. She was a biology laboratory instructor at Alderson Broaddus College from 1960-1961 and a Biology instructor at Philip Barbour High School from 1964-1965. While working on her accounting degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV from 1978-1980, Betty served as a Staff Secretary Assistant in a privately owned dormitory and a Housemother for the Kappa Delta Sorority, where she managed thirty girls in residence and the facilities. Betty was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church; P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter C, Philippi and served as President of the WV State Chapter from 1983-1984; Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 41; Rebekah Lodge No. 275; Phi Beta Phi Sorority, West Virginia University; Beta Alpha Phi, West Virginia University Accounting Honorary; and The Golden Key National Honor Society. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi, WV on Tuesday, August 26 from 12 pm to 2 pm. The Philippi OES Chapter #41 will conduct memorial services at 1:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm with Pastor John Villers officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
