Obituary of Opal Stuart
Opal Pearl (Swiger) Stuart, 88, of Philippi, Overfield Road went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 5, 2015. She was the widow of the late Gail “Bud” Stuart who preceded her in death on February 3, 1984. They were married June 24, 1945.
Born March 21, 1926 in Galloway she was the daughter of the late Ai and Valerie Swiger.
Mrs. Stuart graduated from Philippi High School. She was a loyal member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Nutter Fort. She served as superintendent and also on the Deaconess Committee. She also received the award “WEST VIRGINIAN OF THE YEAR” for all her work in getting public water to her neighbors on Rt. 57.
Opal was a nurse’s assistant for Broaddus Hospital for many years.
She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by 6 sons, David and wife, Cheryl of Charleston, Bryan “Brownie” and wife, Carol of Morgantown, Garry and wife, Mary, Cecil and wife, Pam, Charles and wife, Tammy all of Philippi, and Bernard of Thornton. Also 3 daughters, Rose Marie “Becky” and husband, Bill Williams of Inwood, Betty Cox of Philippi, and Donna Stuart Campbell of Comfort.
She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Donna Hope Stuart, and great-granddaughter, Madi Cox. Mrs. Stuart also has three living brothers, Kenny, Lee, and Michael Swiger and four preceding her in death Virgie, Ray, Argyle, and Dale Swiger. Also one living sister, Virginia, and two preceding her in death, Lucille and Shirley.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 1-9 pm and on Monday, March 9 from 10 am-12 pm the service hour with Rev. Jerome Lewis officiating. Entombment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Mount Clare, WV.
