Lena V. (McDaniel) Valek age 88 of Tacy, passed away March 7 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Stanley, and beloved daughter to the late Howard and Laura McDaniel of the Ford Run community in Philippi. Beloved sister of Louise Mouser (Howard deceased) of Ford Run; Bud (Mary Jo) of Tacy; Dottie Nelson (Ed) of Strongsville, Ohio; Jim (Judy) of Moatsville; William (Annette) of St. Cloud, Florida; Ira (Nancy) of Ford Run; and Philip (Diane) of Lakewood, Ohio. Blessed aunt/great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dear friend to many in Fairview Park, Ohio. She was preceded in death by the following siblings: Harold, Lucille, Luetta, Vonda Lee, Herbert Hoover, Kenneth, Dorothy Marie, Donald Lee and Scottie. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Janie Williams, Lena’s caretaker and best friend. Lena moved from Ford Run to Lakewood, Ohio, near Cleveland, in the early 1950’s where she worked for Cleveland Mica. In the following years, one sister and five brothers also moved to the Greater Cleveland area. Lena served as host for her siblings until they found employment and their own housing. After marrying Stanley Valek in 1964, Lena moved to a house with a large yard in Fairview Park, Ohio. Lena raised flowers and plants, attracting customers from throughout the Cleveland suburbs. She became known as the Fairview Park Flower Lady and was especially recognized for her dried flower wreaths. Lena returned to Philippi in 2003 and settled in Tacy where she continued her love of a vegetable garden and flowers. Many friends and relatives have plants in their own yards started as gifts from Lena. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hospice Care Corporation, Elkins WV or The Olive Hill Cemetery Fund. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday March 13, from 4-8 pm and on Saturday March 14, from 8 am – 1 pm the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Lena’s request for cremation will be honored and will follow the services on Saturday.
