Obituary of Charles Lewis
Charles David Lewis, age 91, a resident of the WV Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg passed away Wednesday February 29, 2012 under the beloved care of the nurses and staff. He was a former resident of S. High Street, Philippi He was born September 14, 1920 in Lost Creek, WV a son of the late Alvin C. and Ocie (Talbott) Lewis. He was twice married first to Martha Marie Lewis who preceded him in death on November 27, 1981 and second he was united in marriage on November 22, 1982 to Rosalie (Scheibe) Lewis who survives. Also surviving is:
One daughter: Janet E. Chapman and husband David L. of Philippi
Two sons: David L. Lewis and wife Sheila of Jane Lew
Henry C. Lewis and wife Lana of Kingsport, TN
seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by one daughter: Kathryn Marie Lewis, three brothers: John, Harry, and Frank Lewis, one sister: Frances Jackson.
Mrs. Lewis retired from Pittston Corp. as a warehouse supervisor, and in earlier years he worked in Harrison and Barbour Counties for Clinchfield and Badger Coal Companies.
He served in the US Navy during WWII, he was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge #59, and the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Clarksburg. He was a graduate of Lost Creek High School class of 1940 and also a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Saturday March 3, from 10 am- 1 pm the service hour with Rev. Fred Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with military honours being accorded.
