Obituary of Leota O'Neal
Leota Radelle O’Neal, 94, of Valley Furnace, West Virginia went to live in her heavenly home on Sunday evening, July 19, 2020 at Mon Health Center after a brief illness.
Leota was born on September 20, 1925 in Valley Furnace, WV to the late Chester Poling and Elnora Auvil Poling.
She enjoyed working as a substitute custodian for Barbour County Schools, working at Thornhill’s Florist shop, and being a devoted housewife.
On April 27, 1945, Leota married Harry James O’Neal Jr. whom she said knew she would marry since they were in school together. The couple enjoyed 55 years of marriage together.
Preceding Leota in death are: one daughter, Sheila Lambert; two sisters: Rosalie Marsh and Esta Howdershelt; and one brother, Kenneth Poling.
Those who will miss Leota until they meet again include: 5 siblings: James Poling and wife Sue of Tacy, Pauline Price, Patsy Bolyard, Joann Bolyard, and Faye Haddix all of White Oak community; two children, Sharon Faye Bolyard and husband Jerry of Whitmer, WV; Carolyn Sue Spessert and husband Warren of Valley Furnace, WV; eight grandchildren: Mark Spessert and wife Carole of Martinsburg, WV, Matthew Dwight Spessert and wife Tracy of Westerville, OH; Dwan Shasta Hamons and husband Greg of Hillsboro, WV; Brittany Danielle Moody of Beverly, WV; Jessica Nicole Jordan and husband Mike of Belington; Justine Amber Saville and husband Jay of Whitmer, WV; Whitney Rochelle Mullennex and husband Asa of Acme, Pennsylvania; Bruce Everett Trenton Lambert of Thomas, WV; and 14 great grandchildren: Cassidy Cheyenne (Spessert) Arndt and husband Danny of Fort Walton Beach, FL; Cadin Dakota Spessert and wife Kylie of Valley Furnace, WV, Wyatt James Jordan, Reatta Faye Jordan, Gavin Michael Moody, Halle Gretchen Moody, Rileyann Olivia Hamons, Sienna Rose Hamons, Nicholas Matthew Spessert, Claire Elizabeth Spessert, Slate Jay Saville, Montana Faith Saville, Eva Skye Saville, and Case Augustus Saville.
Leota belonged to the New Hope Valley United Methodist Church in Valley Furnace, WV. She loved gardening, mowing her lawn, eating ice cream, spending time with family, traveling with her friends and family members, and attending the weddings and graduations of her grandkids.
Leota would want to tell everyone she knew that she is dancing and singing with the angels in heaven and that she wants you to meet her there!
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday July 21, from 6:30- 8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday July 22, at 11 am at Central Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Tammy Phillips officiating.
