Obituary of Mary Louise Humphreys
Mary Louise Boyles Humphreys of Mansfield Place, Philippi WV passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
Born on July 3, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Austin Denver and Gladys Gay (Poling) Boyles of the community of Tacy. She attended Akron City School, Barbour Co. Schools and graduated from Philippi High School with the Class of 1944. That same year she married Orville Ray Humphreys, son of Willy and Icie Fink Humphreys, who preceded her in death in January of 1954.
Mary Louise leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Gladys Humphreys (widow of Lynn Austin) of Summerfield, FL; one daughter, Jo Ellen (Max) Daugherty; one granddaughter, Regina (Bruce) Bankston and one great-grandchild, Taylor Bankston, all of Texas. One sister-in-law, Loretta Boyles; one brother-in-law, Delaine Green and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; Jack, Austin and Byron Boyles; one sister, Doris Green, one –great-grandchild, Cameron Bankston and her maternal grandparents, Luther B. and Delphia (Gainer) and 2nd wife, Ina Laura (Strawderman) Poling. Paternal grandparents, Abraham Jackson and Georgia Ellen (Sturm) Boyles and son-in-law, Max Daugherty.
Mary Louise worked a total of 48 years for The Myers Clinic Hospital and Broaddus Hospital in Philippi. She worked in many capacities beginning in the kitchen and dining room of the Clinic on Wood Street and finally as a Housekeeper at Broaddus Hospital.
She belonged to many businesses and social organizations in Barbour, Taylor and Harrison Counties. She was a long time member of the Cross Roads UM Church at Tacy, and a 55 year member of the United Methodist Women of Tacy.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday, January 19, from 9:30-10:30 am. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 am in the Tacy Crossroads Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Tacy Crossroads Cemetery.
