Janet I. (Thorne) Upton age 81 a resident of Maplebrook Ln. passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 in Elkins, WV. She was born June 10, 1940 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late Beryl and Hazel (Wamsley) Thorne. She was united in marriage to her husband of 62 years Jimmy Dale Upton who preceded her in death February 22, 2021. Surviving is- Two sisters, Shirley J. (Thorne) Taylor of Philippi Susan D. (Ball) Haddix and husband, Steven of Belington Several nieces and nephews Janet was preceded in death by brother, Ralph Thorne. She worked as a telephone operator, in the medical record department of Broaddus Hospital, and for Eagle Glass Company. She was known as Mama Jan having cared and mothered over 63 children for different families. Janet enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, and loved going to the beach. In honor of Janet’s request cremation will be honored, a celebration service will be held at a later date.
