Ira Joseph Croston, age 83, a resident of Philippi, passed away unexpectedly on Monday November 1, 2021. Ira was born June 14, 1938 in Barbour County a son of the late Joseph and Maybell (Newman) Croston. Ira was united in marriage on February 17, 1962 to Judy Elaine (Mayle) Croston who preceded in death on November 21, 2012, also preceding him in death is son Crolin Ira Mayle. Surviving is five children, Keith Randall Croston and companion Amber Tracy Elaine Hunter and husband Steve Marie Ann Mayle and husband Craig Becky Lynn Mayle and husband Hartzel Nina Rose Norris and late husband Ted all of Philippi Companion Nancy Thompson of Philippi Sister, Joyce Newman of Minerva, OH Brother, Correl Croston of Philippi Grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Croston, Jessica Renee Miner, Monica Lynn Shaffer, Brittany Nicole O’Dell, Brandon Hartzel Mayle, Samantha Yvonne Croston, Aaron Mitchel Norris, Michael Steven Hunter, Lauran Adell Howdershelt, Matthew Trey Hunter, Zoey Kaitlyn Collins Great grandchildren, Aubrey Dawn Poling, Avery Laine Shaffer, Rachel Brooke Norris, Rose Michelle Norris, Lainey Brooke Mayle, Ellie Rose Shaffer, Brantley Chase Mayle, Maci Judith Norris, Jett Michael Hunter, Emmett Reed Shaffer, Kingsley Jean O’Dell, Owen Andrew Howdershelt, Coalton Sylas Davis Ira was also preceded in death by sisters, Burnett Croston, Edna Collins, Vietta Newman, brother Gary Croston. Ira retired from the City of Philippi with over 30 years of service as a custodian. He loved his side by side, tractors, and lawn mowers, he enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers. Ira enjoyed family gatherings and telling stories of his childhood. He was a member of the People’s Chapel Church. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday November 5, from 4-8 pm and on Saturday November 6, from 8am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm with Pastor Ruston Seaman officiating. Interment will follow in the Welch Cemetery.
