Obituary of Edna McCauley

Edna Mae (Mitchell) McCauley a resident of Rt. 3 Philippi passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at her home place where she was born, reared and lived for the past 98 years. She was born August 26, 1911 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late George I. and Lora Victoria (Nestor) Mitchell. She was united in marriage August 27, 1932 to Delbert S. McCauley who preceded her in death March 4, 1991. Surviving are: Two Sons, Randall and wife Judy McCauley Gary and wife Pat McCauley, both of Arden Rd. Philippi Four Grandchildren, Bart McCauley, Kris Rosier, Teresa Gray and Jeff McCauley. Four Great-Grandchildren She was preceded in death by one son, Charles McCauley, two sisters, Ruth McVicker and Ave Shomo. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed shopping, eating out and meeting people. She was a member of Ebenezer Church. Imagine nearly a hundred years of progress. Edna lived it. There are many stories of how brave Edna was, one being doing the driving for her family years ago. When you go from a horse and buggy to a model-T with side curtains and then to a car with windows and a heater, axle deep mud or six inches of snow is nothing to be afraid of. There were many changes beyond the automobile, her father thought a toilet in the house was disgusting, but Edna thought it was a luxury. Edna always saved every dollar she could-just may be because she lived thru the Great Depression when it was a disgrace to accept what is known today as entitlements. The change she saw in her lifetime is simply amazing..."Life is a Perception; it is what YOU think it is". Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 8-11:00 a.m. the service hour with Pastor Joyce Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Clemtown Cemetery.
