Obituary of Estes Phillips
Estes Hess Phillips, age 91, a resident of Rt. 2 White Oak Rd. Philippi passed away Tuesday December 1, 2009 at his residence. He was born June 5, 1918 in Barbour Co. a son of the late Waitman and Maudie (Skidmore) Phillips. He was united in marriage June 2, 1943 to Mary Jane (Menefee) Phillips who survives. Also surviving is;
Two sons; Estes Junior Phillips of Midway Rd. Belington
Kenneth Clyde Phillips Sr. and wife Karen of Belington
Five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by one great grandchild, daughter-in-law Martha (Schoonover) Phillips, two brothers; Lonnie and Wilbert Phillips.
Mr. Phillips retired from Ware's Sawmill as a timber man, and was a farmer. He served in the US Army. He was a patriotic individual, and was honored to serve his country. He often reminisced and compared the present day military activities with his service during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44 and the White Oak Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, picnic's.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday December 3, from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley and Speaker Lewis Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown with military honours being accorded.
