Buddy B. McDaniel passed away peacefully on August 29 at his home in Tacy, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Jo (Robinson). He is also survived by his children: Gary of Lakewood, Ohio; Perry and his wife Nan of Charleston; and Terry of North Olmsted, Ohio; and his beloved grandchildren, Kate and Robert Jess. Kate and her husband, Scott Cope, live in Alexandria, Virginia, where they await the imminent birth of their daughter, Allie Rebecca Cope. Jess is a sophomore at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Bud was born December 9, 1931, to the late Howard and Laura McDaniel of the Ford Run community in Philippi. He was the beloved brother of Louise (Howard deceased) of Ford Run; Dottie (Ed) of Strongsville, Ohio; Jim (Judy) of Moatsville; William (Annette) of St. Cloud, Florida; Ira (Nancy) of Ford Run; and Philip (Diane) of Lakewood, Ohio. He was preceded in death by siblings Harold, Lucille, Lena, Luetta, Vonda Lee, Herbert Hoover, Kenneth, Dorothy Marie, Donald Lee and Scottie. Bud was blessed to be the uncle of thirty-eight wonderful nieces and nephews, and the great-uncle to their children, many of whom were regular visitors at his home. Bud served in Korea in the U.S. Army from 1953-54 where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Bud moved to Lakewood, Ohio in 1955, where he began a career in the paint business, retiring as a chemist with Sherwin-Williams in 1992. Bud was joined in the Greater Cleveland area by one sister, four brothers and numerous cousins. Bud and Mary Jo spent many weekends visiting or hosting family members. Bud also found time to dedicate over two decades of volunteer service to the Boy Scouts of America. Beginning when his sons joined the Cub Scouts, and continuing after his own sons finished their scouting careers, Bud was a constant presence with Cub Pack 211 and Boy Scout Troop 211. Bud and Mary Jo returned to Barbour County in 1996, and settled in Tacy where they were once again surrounded by loving and supportive family members. Bud attended Cross Roads United Methodist Church and was active with the Tacy Community Association, where he enjoyed the friendship of the wonderful residents of Tacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the “Olive Hill Cemetery Association”, c/o McDaniel Family, 921 Laurel Creek Road, Moatsville, WV, 26405. Friends may call at Wright’s Funeral Home in Philippi on Friday, September 4, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., and from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. Funeral services will commence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5. Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.
