Obituary of Mildred Bartlett

Mildred Rose (Wagner) Bartlett 92 departed this life Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Bridgeport, WV. She was born July 25, 1923 in Mt. Liberty, Barbour County to the late Virgil S. Wagner and Mattie J. Daugherty Wagner. She was married on July 4, 1942 to the late Leonard Bartlett who passed away August 18, 1984. He was the love of her life. She continued to operate the family farm, planting and harvesting the garden canning and mowing her own yard of 2 acres for several years. She always said she loved to feel the dirt in her hands. Her flower gardens were a picture of beauty and admired by all who saw them. She is survived by her daughter, Loverine Pigott and her husband William of Bridgeport, WV. Son in-law Armen Shockey of Painesville, OH. Her grandchildren whom she adored. Granddaughter Regina Kay (Pigott) Beto of Clarkburg and friend, Robert Bumgardner, Coco Beach, FL, grandsons Perry Ray Shockey and wife Tammy of Painesville, OH, Chad William Pigott and friend Teressa Smallwood, Clarksburg, Randy Shockey and wife Vanessa of Willoughby, OH. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren. They were so very precious to her and she was so proud of them. Nicholas A. Beto and friend Rachael Slaton, of Clarksburg, WV, Christian W. Beto of Fairmont, WV, Kyle S. Shockey, Painesville, OH, Jessica M. Pigott, Shepardstown, WV and Veronica G. Shockey, Painesville, OH. She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Deanna Kay Shockey on May 9, 2015, great-grandson, Noah Shockey on September 5, 2004. Five brothers, Delbert Wagner, Leonard Wagner, Scott Wagner, Russell Wagner and Fred Wagner. Four sisters, Madge Everson, Dora Jones, Vesta Weese and Flossie Haller. Mildred was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was employed by Alderson-Broaddus College for several years, taking care of sports uniforms. She so enjoyed the students and called them “Her Boys” even up to the time of her death and was known to them as MOM. Mildred was always ready to lend a helping hand to benefit the Mt. Liberty Community working at the center cooking and serving on all occasions. When her health began to fail she so missed being able to help out. She was a member of the Barbour Church of Christ and for the past year she attended the Bridgeport Church of Christ. Mildred was a huge WVU and Steeler Fan. Friends will be received at the Barbour Church of Christ, 10429 Barbour Co. Highway, Belington on Monday, October 26, 2015 from 3-8 pm and on Tuesday, October 27, from 8-11 am the service hour with Evangelist Everett Confer officiating. Also assisting the service will be Evangelist Stan Jenkins and Evangelist Ryan Currey. Interment will follow in the Holbert Cemetery.
