Obituary of Sylvia Freeman

Sylvia Dove (Foster) Freeman, age 93, a resident of Rt. 1 Philippi passed away Sunday March 13, 2011 at her home after a brief illness under the care of Mountain Hospice. She was born July 17, 1917 in Barbour County a daughter of the late Arthur "Buck" Foster and Sarah Ann (Kittle) Foster Phillips. On November 7, 1937 Sylvia married the love of her life Edgar C. Freeman, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2001 after 63 1/2 years of marriage. Surviving are Five daughters: Lola Freeman Mrs. Clifford (Barbara) Workman Mrs. Ronald (Maxine) Burgardt Deborah Marsh Cindy Freeman all of Philippi One son: Jesse Freeman of Philippi Half brother: Thomas Phillips of Elkins Several nieces and nephews Sylvia was blessed with 25 grandchildren, over 50 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren whom she loved very much. She was very attached to her 2 yr old great granddaughter Abby who she called her miracle baby. Sylvia was preceded in death by three daughters Evelyn Freeman, Helen Sigley, Gladys McDaniel, two sons Charles and John Freeman, two sisters and five brothers. Sylvia owned and operated Freeman's Market for over 40 years. She enjoyed talking to people, and was often teased by her kids of following customers to the door and trying to go home with them. She believed in hard work. When Jesse would come in with a load of produce, she would get up in the trailer and start reaching the produce off. Customers would make the comment, you shouldn't let her do that at her age. Her answer to that was, if I feel like doing it I'm going to. Sylvia was a very strong lady. She loved everybody, strangers as well as friends, but most of all God and her family. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. She was a Baptist by faith. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday March 15, from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday March 16, from 8 am- 8 pm, and on Thursday March 17, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Rev. David Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
