Obituary of Vernon Haller
Vernon E. Haller, 94, of the Tacy Community, Rt. 2 Philippi died Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center at Belington, following an extended illness.
He was born March 28, 1918, at Nestorville, WV, a son of the late Blaine and Lottie (Stemple) Haller.
His wife of 70 years, whom he married on April 4, 1942, Dorothy Lee (Hershman) Haller, survives.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Lee Miller and Norma Gay Shaw and one brother Charles “Jimmy” Haller.
Mr. Haller served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Small Arms Weapons Mechanic Sergeant. His duties were in Casablanca, Tunisa, Naples and Rome. He retired from Stewartsville Construction Company near Baltimore, MD where he and his wife resided 52 years prior to their return to WV. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, ginsenging, hunting and listening to country music. He was protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday, October 12 from 3-8 pm and on Saturday, October 13 from 8-11 am the service hour with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery at Tacy with military honours being accorded.
