The Reverend Harold Lee Harsh bid farewell to this world on Monday, May 20, 2013 at his home in Buckhannon. He returned to the grace and favor of the Lord, His savior. He was 71. Mr. Harsh was born in Parsons, on June 15, 1941 to Elmer “Smokey” and Kathleen (Dawson) Harsh. He graduated from Belington High (1959) and attended Potomac State College. He enlisted in the Army in 1960 and was one of the first 10,000 troops to be deployed to Vietnam by President John F. Kennedy. He was medically discharged in 1970. Upon discharge, Mr. Harsh worked in Laborer’s Union #984 as a steward on multiple projects including the Sutton Dam and the Bridgeport Post Office Hub. Mr. Harsh was also well-known at flea-markets and auctions. He was a memorable character and friend to many. Mr. Harsh is survived by brother Ron Harsh and wife Sharon of Belington, sister Mary Stark and husband Tom of Parkersburg, brother David Harsh of Beckley and brother Tim Harsh and wife Paula of Dry Fork; daughter Kathleen Harsh of Great Mills, MD, son Maurice Harsh and wife Kelly of Chambersburg, PA, son Douglas Harsh and wife Sharon of Pittsburgh, PA, son Jeremy Harsh and companion Susan Marshall of Buckhannon; grandchildren Brittany Taylor and Marissa Harsh of Chambersburg, PA, Haley, Grace, and Jacob Harsh of Pittsburgh, PA; great grandchild Aiden Taylor of Chambersburg, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. Harsh was preceded in death by both parents and brother Robert Harsh. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday May 23, from 12- 2 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm with Pastor Frank Shreve officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery with military honours being accorded.
