Obituary of David Colvin Mellquist

David Colvin Mellquist, age 76, left his broken earthly body for heaven on October 9th surrounded by his family singing Victory in Jesus.

David was born May 12, 1941 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, a son of the late Orville K. Mellquist and the late Margaret N. Foulk Mellquist.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen K. Mellquist.  He is also survived by his daughters and son-in-laws; Bronlynn & Bill Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Koreen & Jon Villers of Philippi, WV and Danyl & Rick Freeman of Moorefield, WV.  He is survived by his grandchildren, Bryson & Leandra Morlan of Buckhannon, WV, Jarren Morlan of Gassaway, WV & his fiance’ Courtney Dean of Mt. Nebo, WV, Tyler Morlan of Gassaway, WV &  his girlfriend Nikki Lake of Hacker Valley, WV, Kenton Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Caleb & Maci Villers of Summersville, WV, Aaron & Callie Freeman of Arlington, VA, Logan & Contessa Morlan of Gassaway, WV, Allison Villers, Thomas Villers, Robert Villers of Philippi, WV and Reagan Freeman of Moorefield, WV.  He is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Reed Morlan of Buckhannon, WV and Eliora Morlan of Gassaway, WV.

He is survived by his siblings; Robert Mellquist and wife Darlene of Baltimore, OH; Bronwyn Mellquist and husband Roe Smith of Newton, Massachusetts; and Jocelyn Robison and husband Ron of New Eagle, PA, and nieces and nephews.

David was a 1963 graduate of Alderson Broaddus College.  During his life he served as an x-ray technician at Broaddus Hospital, St Joe’s Hospital, Latrobe Hospital and WVU Hospital. He also was a salesman for Picker International and Fisher International.  He owned and operated his own home improvement company DavHel Enterprises, and pastored several churches in the Monongahela Baptist Association with his last pastorate being at First Southern Baptist of Fairmont.  He was currently serving as the Monongahelia Baptist Association Missionary.  David was also a member of the Tennerton Lions Club.  His most rewarding work was doing the Lord’s work as a deacon, pastor and association missionary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to People’s Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV  26330.  Family & Friends will be received at Wright’s Funeral Home in Philippi, WV on Wednesday, October 11th from   4-8 p.m., also at Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon, WV on Thursday, October 12th from 4-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be at Wayside Baptist Church in Buckhannon, WV at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 13th.  Interment will be at Hazelgreen Cemetery in Ritchie County, WV.
