I have so many special memories of Hugh. I first came to know him when he did the excavating for our church building (Huntingtown Church of Christ). I was so happy when he an Wilda decided to place membership there. He and my father (Dale Snell) were the first 2 elders to be appointed by our congregation. Their birthdays were only 2 days apart. Hugh was born 2 days after my dad. My parents thought so much of the Postens, as so many did.
I’ll never forget the time that 4 of us men drove all night to the Harding lectures. I was trying to sleep in the back, and Hugh and the preacher were in the front- singing silly songs like “Old MacDonald”. Maybe some day I’ll forgive him for when he slapped me on the back and screamed “Wake up!”
When we were sleeping in the dorms, the preacher and I were in one suite, while Hugh and my dad were in the other. They giggled half the night like school boys. I can honestly say that I don’t remember a time when my dad laughed so much. One of the things that made my dad laugh so much was when Hugh said “Dale, it’s cold enough to butcher in here!” Must be a generational joke.
What a blessing it is to know that Hugh is joining that great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us, which would include his wife Wilda, and my parents, among others.
I look forward to seeing them all again one day... the day when we will have lost the reason to sing Hugh’s favorite hymn, as I remember... “Never Grow Old”.
