Obituary of Melvin R. Woodford, Jr.
Melvin R. Woodford, Jr., age 90, a resident of Good Samaritan of Barbour County and a former resident of Philippi passed away Wednesday August 15, 2018. Melvin was born January 3, 1928 in Philippi a son of the late Melvin Roy Woodford, Sr. and Gladys (Sinsel) Woodford. Surviving is sister, Carolyn (Woodford) Waddell and companion Guy Gribble

Melvin was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Beatty Wagner, and Barbara Stewart, two nephews, Tim Swanson, and Michael Beatty
Melvin retired as a foreman from WV Department of Highways with 26 years of service, he also worked in the maintenance department for AB College for eight years, and was an avid farmer for many years.
Melvin served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was in the 47th Infantry Division. He was past noble Grad of I.O.O.F and also Tygart Valley Encampment. Melvin was a lifetime member of the D.A.V Grafton Chapter #24, American Legion Post #44. He was also a member of the Democrat Committee, Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as Trustee, Deacon and was Sunday School Superintendent for several years, he was also a trustee for Mt. Olive Cemetery. Melvin was a graduate of Philippi High School class of 1947.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Saturday August 18, from 4-8 pm and on Sunday August 19th from 8-11 am. Melvin will be moved to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church to lie in state from 12- 2 p. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm with Dr. Richard Kiley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery with Military rites being accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
