Obituary of Herbert Holbert
Herbert R. Holbert, age 92 a resident of Mt. Liberty Community passed away Thursday February 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born August 4, 1921 in Belington, WV a son of the late Thomas and Bertha (Daugherty) Holbert. He was united in marriage September 30, 1942 to Carol (Corley) Holbert for 71 years who survives. Herbert was preceded in death by two sisters; Virginia Leahy and Juanita Holbert, two brothers; Thomas Holbert and Homer Holbert, four son-in-laws George Johnson, John Davide, Ken Vanmeter and Tom Condon.
Herbert worked as a warehouse supervisor for Safe-Way Foods. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Jobb in the Pacific Ocean. Herbert was an active member of the American Legions Post #44 where he participated in 150 honor guard services, a lifetime member of the Belington VFW #410, a member of the Barbour Church of Christ, the Mount Liberty Community and the Barbour County Senior Center.
Herbert enjoyed antique cars, making apple butter and collecting Fisher-Price toys.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday February 23, from 3-8 pm and on Monday February 24, from 8- 11:30 am the service hour with Evangelist Stan Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery with full military honors being accorded.
