Obituary of Betty Rae Heckert
Betty Rae Ford Nutter Heckert passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at age 92. She was born on August 25, 1927, at Big Run, West Virginia (WV), and was raised in nearby Century Number 2, in Barbour County, WV. She was the last survivor of twelve children of Martin and Lucy Cunningham Ford, as well as two cousins who were raised as foster sisters.
In 1950, Betty married Oscar Lee Nutter, who passed away in 1988. They had two sons: James Lee Nutter of The Villages, Florida, married to Joy, and parents of her only grandchild, Christopher, of The Villages, Florida; and Dennis Ray Nutter of Lost Creek, WV, married to Robin. In 1990, Betty married Homer Paul Heckert, who passed away in 1994.
Betty was a homemaker, Christian, and former member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church (WV), the Weston Baptist Church (WV), the Staunton Church of the Brethren (VA), and lastly, the Harvest Evangelical Methodist Church in Jane Lew, WV. She lived at 122 Marshall Street, Clarksburg, WV, from 1950 to 1990 and then moved to Weston, WV. In 2000, she moved to live with her son, Dennis, at Staunton, VA. In 2015, she moved with Dennis to Lost Creek, WV, when he married Robin Stark.
Betty is missed by her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care by the nurses and doctors of United Hospital Center and Ruby Memorial Hospital as well as those at the Clarksburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home at 220 North Walnut Street, Philippi, WV, on Saturday, September 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, September 8, from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Linda Click. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi, WV.
