Obituary of Eugene Corb Daughtery

Eugene Corb Daugherty, age 94, resident of Union Community Philippi, passed away Wednesday September 18, 2019 at the home of his daughter.  Eugene was born January 6, 1925 in Barbour County a son of the late Virgil Henry and Cora Blanche (Ervin) Daugherty.  Eugene was united in marriage to Betty (Harris) Daugherty who preceded him in death on June 9, 2003.  Surviving is-

One daughter, Kathy Shahan and husband Robert of Philippi

One son, Michael F. Daughterty of Clarksburg 

A young lady he loved like a daughter, Jodie Everson of Belington

Two young men he loved like sons, Billy Kennedy and Davey Kennedy

Grandchildren, Melinda Karlen and husband Jimmy

Darrell Shahan and wife Jill all of Philippi

Great grandchildren, Trey and Paisley Karlen, Matthew and Makenzie Shahan

Beloved K9 companion, Tia

Eugene was preceded in death by son, Virgil Henry Daugherty; He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Finley, Veda Daugherty, Vevia Ketchem, Neveda Sinsel, Claudette “Cody” Burner; brothers, Erskel, Leon, Eddie and Bertsell “Pippy” Daugherty.

Eugene was a coal miner an avid farmer, he was an animal lover especially horses, dogs and cats.

Eugene served in the US Navy, he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, and he served on the USS Destroyer, and USS Dale and was baptized.  He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Commendation Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.  Eugene was a member of the VFW Post #410.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday September 19, from 6-8, and on Friday September 20, from 8 am- 3 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm with Rev. Dr. Danny Franke officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pitman Cemetery with military honors being accorded.
