Lila Wilma Spurgeon, 83, passed away peacefully January 05, 2020. She was born November 4, 1936 in Philippi, WV, the daughter of Ronald M. and Lauvaughn E. (Chapman) Hymes/Poling. She was married to her sweetheart, Forest Lynn Spurgeon, for over 50 years and is now reunited with him in the Kingdom of God. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne “Pete” Hymes, sister, Marilyn Sue (Hymes) Huffman, and granddaughter Phoebe Mercer. Surviving are her daughter, Karen (Spurgeon) and husband Philip Mercer; sister, Janet (Poling) and husband Lou Sanchez, brother Lowell and wife Joan (Bibey) Poling; grandsons William and wife Sarah (Marshall) Hess, Adam Mercer, granddaughter Sarah (Hess) and husband Clyde Sphon, and precious great-grandchildren: Shayla George, Briella Sphon, Alanah Sphon, Liam Hess, and Amelia Hess. She is also survived by her beloved Mt Vernon United Methodist Church family, and her farm family: Gary & Debbie Mayle, Mike and Tracy Hicks and John and Sue Lane, and best friends and painting buddies: Janet Poling and Pat Wanstreet. She was a former home health aide with the Barbour County Health Department, Barbour County Emergency Squad Paramedic volunteer, and established artist. Her painting exhibits will be missed at the annual Barbour County Fair. Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday January 7, from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday January 8, from 8 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
