Obituary of Ronald Lynn Ketchem

Ronald Lynn Ketchem, age 80, a resident of Philippi, passed away Friday August 28, 2020 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Ronald was born on January 25, 1940 at Philippi, a son of the late Lee and Eva (Shanabarger) Ketchem. He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Brenda Joyce (Mitchell) Ketchem. Also surviving- One daughter, Terri Shaw of Philippi One son, Tim Ketchem and wife Maggie of Philippi Two bonus sons, Eddie Mitchell and wife Pam of Philippi Jimmy Mitchell and wife Beth of Philippi 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by one sister Judy Kelley, two brothers, Henry and Tommy Ketchem, and one granddaughter, Jessica Shaw Ronald graduated Philippi High School class of 1959. He began working as a coal miner at 17 in his father’s coal mines and later worked for Badger and Pittston Coal Company as an engineer in the mines for 27 years and retired from Barbour County Court House in the Maintenance Department with 10 years of service. He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, WVU Football, watching old western movies, and spending time with family and friends. Man of faith and loved his family dearly. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday August 31, from 4-8 pm and on Tuesday September 1, from 8 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Rev. Hank Sharrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Pitman Cemetery.
