Betty Jo Marteney, age 92, a resident of Mansfield Dr. Philippi passed away Wednesday March 9, 2016 at her residence. She was born January 8, 1924 in Volga, WV a daughter of the late Kara R. and Pearl (Foster) Manley. She was united in marriage on August 4, 1939 to Harold Robert “Bob” Marteney who preceded her in death on September 14, 1978. Surviving is: Daughter Roberta Jo Jacobs and husband Ray of Philippi Son Larry Gene Marteney and wife Valla J. of Du Bois, Pa Sister Kate Dean of Grafton Grandchildren Christopher Marteney of Pittsburgh, PA, Tricia Marteney of Springboro, OH, Robbie Jacobs of Grafton, Kim Jacobs of Gatesville, TX, Lisa Shahan of Clarksburg Great grandchildren Jackson Axtel of Springboro, OH, Steivee Jacobs of Gatesville, TX, Shawn Jacobs of Thorton, Marteney Jacobs of Grafton, Mercedes Jacobs of Lewisburg, Micah Shahan of Clarksburg, Bronlie Jacobs, Bria Jacobs, Robbi Jacobs all of Grafton Great-Great Grandchildren Noa Jacobs and Max Beverly both of Gatesville, TX, Isabella Jacobs of Thorton Betty was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers, Evelyn Cook, Bob Robert Manley, Jean Fenstermacher, Jim Manley, Kenneth Manley, Helen Maxson, and Tommy Manley. Betty retired as a teacher from Alderson- Broaddus College. She was a member of the Philippi OES Chapter #41, United Methodist Women, Philippi Women’s Club, Phi Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Associating, Women on Mission, Philippi Garden Club. Betty was also a member of the Southern Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher and also a choir member. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday March 11, from 5-8 pm and on Saturday March 12, from 8 am- 1 pm the service hour with Pastor Jim Strawderman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
